Police and firefighters trying to respond to a burning home in Morris County early Tuesday were unable to reach the structure due to floodwaters from the coastal storm, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 6 a.m. in a house on Riveredge Road near Route 202 in Lincoln Park. The neighborhood is in a flood zone near the Pompton River, according to police.
“There are first responders out there, but they are unable to get to the fire to pour water on it due to floodwaters,” Lincoln Park Police Capt. John Clements said.
Clements said no injuries had been reported and that nobody was inside when the home went up in flames.
ABC-7 reported first responders set up a staging area along Route 202 and boats have been deployed to the scene to get water on the flames.
Lincoln Park police on Monday night urged residents living in flood-prone areas of the township to evacuate due to rising floodwaters.
Flood warnings in many areas of the state remained in effect Tuesday after the coastal storm swept through the Garden State on Sunday evening and continued into Monday.
